WORKSHEET 2: Scenes from the Film

1.  In this picture I can see Joe and Jess. I think they are in a football stadium, because behind us I think there is a marker, and the ground is green. Jess is wearing a traditional Indian dress, and Joe is wearing a jacket. In this part hey are speaking about football and the university in Santa Clara.

 2. In this picture I can see Joe, Jess and Jules in a bout. Behind us there are more boys and girls. They are sitting in a banc inside the boat. They look happy because they are laughing. Jess is wearing a blue T-shirt and a jacket. Joe is wearing a jena, and a blue shirt, and Jules is wearing a blue T-shirt, a green sweater, and jeans. In this picture they are enjoying the time before the match.

Jesminder (Jess) was a very good football player, and she wanted to be a professionally. But she was an Indian woman and her parents didn't let her to player. One day one girl, called Jules discovered her to played in a park with her friends. and Jules convinced to play in a feminine football team. At the end she complained her dream and she went to Santa Clara to played football and studied in a very good university with her friend Jules.

Juliette (Jules)was a very good football player, and she played in a feminine football team. One day she discovered jess played in a park and they started to be a very good friend. çAnd Jules convinced to play with the same team. She's dream was the same of Jess, and in the end she complained her drem and Jess too.

Jess' parents, Mr and Mrs Bhamra, immigrated to Britain before their children were born. They want therir daughters to be proper Indian girls. theydon' like Jess playing football. 

Jules' father Alan supoorts his daughter's football career. He practices with her and goes to watch her matches. Her mother, Paula, doesn't like it. she wants her daughter to be more feminine.

Pinky is Jess' older sister, She is busy planning her weeing to her boyfriend, Teetu.

Joe is the coach of the Hounslow Harriers. He used to play football, but a knee injury forced him to stop playing. He aws a very brave and pacifically man, because he convinced the fathers of Jesminder, that she has a very good at football, and her parents first didn't accept this, but in the finally they accept.

Tony is Jess' best friend, He plays football with her in the park, Tony has a secret.

Davide Beckham is an international football star.

2.1: The Hounslow Harries          

Exercise A: Put these events in the correct order.

1. Pinky has her engagement party.
2. Jules sees Jess playing footballin the park, and asks her to joing the Hounslow Harries.
3. Jess' mother sees her wearing shorts and playing football with Tony's friends, and tells her she's not allowed to play football.
4. Jess lies to herparents that she has a prt-time job, so she can go out and play football.
5. Jess and Jules go shopping for football shoes.
6. Pinky's boyfriend's realitives see Jes and Jules laughing and hugging, and think she is kissing a man.

Exercise B: Who saig what? Matchthe statement with the person who said it.

2. If she's more interested in playing football than chasng boys, well quite frankly I'm over the moon about that. Jules' father

Exercise C: Thins about the expectation that Jess' and Jules' families have of them. Make lists of theghints taht their families and society expect girls to do. Make one list for both girls, and another list for Jess.

2.2: Will Pinky Get Married?

Exercise A: This section startswith Pinky's wedding being cancelled, because her future in-laws think that Jess was kissing a white man at the bus-stop. Her parents then forbid her from playing football. Put the following events in order.

1. The Hounslow Harriers go to Germany.
2. Joe goes to the Bhamra's house to ty to persuade them to allow Jess to play football.
3. Joe and Jess almost kiss. Jules sees this and becomes jealous.
4. the Bhamras find out Jess went to Germany, and try to make her quit the team. 
5. Tony tells Jess that he is gay.
6. Jess gets into a fight with another football player.
7. Jess' father sees Joe and Jess hugging.
8. The wedding is back on again.

Exercise B: Rewrite these paragraphs so they are true.There are three mistakes in each paragraph.

1. Pinky blames Jess because her wedding is cancelled. She tells her parents that Jess hasn't stopped playing football. They are very angry and tell her she can't continue to play.
2. Jules like Joe. In Germany, Joe and Jess neraly kissed. Jules sees this and is upset and jealous. Jess visits Jules house and they have an argument.
3. Pinky isn't very happy that her wedding is cancelled. She persuades Teetu, her boyfriend, to talk to his parents. Teetu's parents and the Bhamras arrange for the wedding to continue. Unfortunately, the wedding date is the same day as Jess' final football match. 

Exercise C: Joe tries to encourage Jess not to give up. When Jess says that her parents want to protect her by not letting herplay football, Joe asks her "Whose life are you living?" what does he mean?

That she is doing what societly and her family wants her to do. 

2:3 The film match

 Exercise A: Answer the questions.

1. Whydoes Jess' mother pray to the picture of Babaji? Because don't want Jess to play football. 
2. How does Jess efll at the start of her sister's wedding? Really sad.
3. Why does Joe go to Jess' house during the wedding? Because he thinks that match is the opportunity of her live.
4. Why does Mr Bhamra allow Jess to goto the football match? Because she saw Jess very sad, and he knows about the importancy of the match.
5. What does the American offer Jules and Jess? A schoolarship.
6. What job does Joe take in the end? Girls football coach.

Exercise C: At the end of the wedding celebration, Jess is sitting int he car with her sister when her sister says " Don't ou want all of this?" ( a wedding, a husband, etc.). What does jess mean when she says "I want more than this?"

The think that she really wants is to became a football player.
